The Native Plant Subsidy and Backyard Tree Planting Initiative aims to increase native vegetation and boost shade canopy across the Shire of Boddington through voluntary participation from residents and landholders. The Shire has experienced significant loss of native vegetation due to historical land clearing, agricultural practices and mining activities. Leading to habitat fragmentation, reduced biodiversity, land degradation, declining landscape resilience and a lack of natural shade in many areas.

Australia Day in Boddington 2026 offered an opportunity to reflect, respect and celebrate. The community came together in a display of gratitude, resilience and unity in a day of celebration. The day started with a citizenship ceremony welcoming two new Australian citizens into the Boddington community. They were warmly acknowledged, with best wishes extended to them and their families as they settled into local life.

Thanks to the generous support of Newmont Boddington Gold, the Boddington Library and Visitor Centre now have a Virtual Reality (VR) headset available for community members and visitors to enjoy. This immersive experience allows participants to explore the gold production process at the Newmont Boddington Gold Mine and gain an insight into how gold bars are refined and produced at the Perth Mint.
