Australia Day in Boddington 2026 offered an opportunity to reflect, respect and celebrate. The community came together in a display of gratitude, resilience and unity in a day of celebration.
The day began with a citizenship ceremony welcoming two new Australian citizens into the Boddington community. They were warmly acknowledged, with best wishes were extended to them and their families as they settle into local life.
Recent fire events also shaped the tone of the day, highlighting the strength and spirit for which Australians are known. Throughout the emergency, Boddington’s volunteer fire brigades demonstrated exceptional courage, working tirelessly to protect lives, homes, farms and the wider district. Equally significant were the efforts of residents who supported one another by checking on neighbours, sharing essential supplies, assisting with stock movements, providing meals and water, and helping quietly behind the scenes. These acts of service remain deeply appreciated across the community.
Australia Day also provided an opportunity to recognise outstanding local achievements.
- Lilijana Gillis was named Senior Citizen of the Year for more than fifty years of dedicated service.
- Jayne Ventris received the Community Citizen of the Year for her ongoing volunteer work supporting families and young people.
- Dylan Van Zuydam, Young Citizen of the Year nominee, and Lisa Overington, Community Citizen of the Year nominee, were also acknowledged for their valued contributions.
Following the ceremony and the community breakfast hosted by the Boddington Lions Club, more than 200 residents and visitors attended the Family Fun Day at the Boddington Swimming Pool. The event featured a waterslide, bouncy castle, games, bubbles, a chill out zone, food vouchers, as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander hand waver flags and wristbands. Despite a brief burst of cooler weather, the day remained filled with smiles, laughter and community connection.
Australia Day activities in Boddington were supported by the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council, along with the Shire of Boddington, the Boddington Lions Club and Contract Aquatic Services.
