Native Plant Subsidy and Backyard Tree Planting Initiative

Published on Monday, 16 March 2026 at 9:17:00 AM

The Native Plant Subsidy and Backyard Tree Planting Initiative aims to increase native vegetation and boost shade canopy across the Shire of Boddington through voluntary participation from residents and landholders.

The Shire has experienced significant loss of native vegetation due to historical land clearing, agricultural practices and mining activities. Leading to habitat fragmentation, reduced biodiversity, land degradation, declining landscape resilience and a lack of natural shade in many areas.

To help restore local ecosystems and improve environmental outcomes, the Shire is launching this two-stream pilot program.

Stream 1: Native Plant Subsidy Program (Large Landholders)

This stream supports rural and rural‑residential landholders who wish to revegetate private property using suitable native species.

Landholders with properties of 2,000 square metres or more can apply for one tray of forestry tubestock containing 64 native plants at a subsidised cost of $25 per tray.

Expressions of Interest (EOI) close Friday, 27 March 2026.

Important Dates

  • EOI Opens: 16 March 2026
  • EOI Closes: 27 March 2026
  • Assessment: 1 to 2 weeks after closing
  • Plant Collection: Second week of April 2026

Successful applicants will be notified and provided with collection details.

Stream 2: Backyard Tree Planting Program (Households)

This stream supports households in increasing shade and greenery within residential areas.

Eligible households will receive one or two native trees at no cost. Trees will be available on a first‑come, first‑served basis, and may be planted in either the front or back yard, provided conditions are suitable.

Participating properties must be located within the Shire of Boddington and have an appropriate space for planting.

Plant collection will take place during the third week of April 2026. Specific collection times and location will be communicated closer to the date.
