A major step forward has been taken in enhancing local tourism infrastructure, awarding the contract for the design and construction of six new high-quality tourist cabins at the Boddington Caravan Park.
Following a competitive tender process, Council resolved to appoint Industrial Road Pavers in a joint venture with Redipod to deliver the turnkey cabin accommodation project. The new cabins are designed to meet the increasing demand for nature-based, resort-style stays—offering visitors a comfortable and unique experience close to town and the picturesque Hotham River foreshore.
The project forms part of a broader redevelopment of the caravan park precinct, with a clear vision to:
-
Attract more short-stay visitors to town.
-
Increase overnight stays to support local businesses.
-
Create a standout visitor experience in a beautiful natural setting.
-
Position Boddington as a weekend and event destination of choice.
Informed by a business case and needs analysis, the project addresses the current shortfall in high-quality short-stay accommodation options. With increasing visitation during peak events—like the Boddington Lions Rodeo—there is a clear need for more comfortable, self-contained units that appeal to couples, families, and small groups.
The cabins will:
-
Feature sustainable design elements, including solar power with battery storage, double-glazed windows, and low-maintenance finishes.
-
Be BAL-29 compliant, meaning they meet the rigorous standards required for bushfire-prone areas.
-
Offer universal accessibility, ensuring a welcoming experience for people of all abilities.
After careful consideration of several design and delivery options, Council resolved to proceed with the full six-cabin development. This will ensure a cohesive, high-quality product is delivered up front—avoiding cost escalations and design changes that could arise with a staged approach.
The contract award is conditional on final confirmation from Western Power that the anticipated headworks costs remain within budget. Works are expected to commence in late 2025 and be completed by 30 June 2026.
The Shire of Boddington acknowledges the generous support of South32 Worsley Alumina, with $2.5 million allocated from its 2023 and 2024 Community Investment Agreements to fund the delivery of the Caravan Park – Tourist Cabins project.
