Boddington Bushfire: Community Frequently Asked Questions

Published on Tuesday, 13 January 2026 at 2:54:46 PM

Several common questions came up throughout and following the recent bushfire. Some of these questions included:

"How did the fire start?"

The bushfire was started by lightning on Monday, 15 December 2025. It escalated on 24 and 25 December, was contained on 28 December, and was declared controlled on 31 December.

"Did we really have to leave when the emergency evacuation alert was issued?"

Yes. DFES emergency alerts are only issued when there is a serious threat to lives and homes. If a DFES alert is issued, please follow the instructions immediately for your safety.

"Why were some roads closed?"

Some roads had to be closed during the bushfire due to:

  • Active fire in the area.
  • Falling trees and debris.
  • Smoke reduced visibility.
  • Damage to road surfaces or bridges.
  • Safe access for emergency crews.

"How can we help?"

Community members can support recovery by:

  • Looking out for neighbours and vulnerable residents.
  • Following Shire updates.
  • Respecting road closures and safety zones.
  • Accessing support services if needed, and encouraging others to do the same.
  • Volunteer your time through the Volunteering WA website here
