Council has endorsed a submission to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) regarding Alcoa’s revised Pinjarra Alumina Refinery proposal and Bauxite Mining Operations in the Darling Range (2023–2027). The submission raises significant environmental and social concerns, including the clearing of 6,700 hectares of native vegetation, impacts on threatened species, and disruption to nature-based tourism and local communities. While acknowledging the economic benefits of mining, the Shire of Boddington urges the EPA to apply strong environmental conditions and ensure community impacts are addressed.
