The Town Centre Revitalisation Masterplan released in 2023 highlighted some potential improvements to the vacant block at 32 Bannister Road.
The Shire sought community input on the plans to enhance the vacant block at 32 Bannister Road and gather information on how the community would like to see the future use of this space. Feedback was collected online and in person from Tuesday, 18 February 2025 until Monday, 3 March 2025, with a community stall hosted outside the IGA on Friday, 21 February from 2-4pm.
Community feedback on the proposed enhancements guided the development of the draft designs for the vacant block at 32 Bannister Road. The draft design was developed to create a focal point on the main street with landscaping, public art, and space for community events and temporary retail. The draft designs were open for community feedback from Tuesday, 13 May 2025 until Thursday, 22 May 2025. Community members were encouraged to provide feedback online at the Shire website or in-person at the Shire Administration Office or Boddington Library.
The draft concept designs for the vacant block at 32 Bannister Road were adopted by Council at the May Council Meeting. This marked a major milestone in the delivery of the Town Centre Revitalisation Masterplan. The transformation of the vacant block at 32 Bannister Road is set to not only enhance everyday community use but also strengthen Boddington’s appeal as a welcoming and vibrant destination.
This site will serve as a key link between the town centre and the river foreshore. Draft features include:
- Flexible retail / display space overlooking the plaza.
- Removal of the Exordium façade, with a new awning structure and seating addressing Bannister Road.
- Options for food truck parking along Peppercorn Lane.
- Tree and shrub planting for seasonal colour.
- Festoon lighting over the area, with both fixed and flexible furniture.
- Undulating seat height walls and variable turf levels for informal seating.
- Green open space adjacent to the adjoining vacant lot.
- Shade structures for comfort and visual appeal.
These designs have been shaped by public feedback and workshops, including an online survey, local engagement events, and discussions led by Councillors.
This exciting project is proudly supported through a combination of Federal Growing Regions Funding, Lotterywest, and municipal contributions. Construction is expected to be complete by Monday, 30 June 2026.
