The Shires of Boddington and Wandering are seeking an experienced and motivated Community Emergency Services Manager to lead emergency management initiatives across both local governments. This position is a three-year fixed-term contract based in Boddington, allocating regular time each fortnight in the Shire of Wandering, as well as at the DFES Narrogin District Office. The position works closely with volunteers, local government and emergency management stakeholders to enhance community preparedness, resilience and safety.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of Bush Fire Brigades and volunteer emergency services operations.
  • Lead bushfire preparedness, prevention, response and recovery initiatives across both Shires.
  • Develop and maintain emergency management plans, risk mitigation strategies and continuous improvement programs.
  • Provide specialist advice and represent the Shires at emergency management, government and industry forums.
  • Manage budgets, reporting, compliance, policies and emergency services systems in accordance with legislative and organisational requirements.

 

The successful candidate will have proven experience and comprehensive knowledge of Bush Fire Brigade coordination, as well as the legislative, operational and governance frameworks that support effective emergency services delivery.

 

The ideal applicant will also possess:

  • DFES Level 1 Incident Controller, or equivalent.
  • DFES Trainer Assessor, TAE40122 Cert IV in Training and Assessment, or equivalent, with demonstrated experience delivering volunteer and emergency services training.

 

The position offers:

  • Salary package between $115,455 and $133,154, with a cash component between $97,843 and $112,843, inclusive of availability allowance
  • Suitable and highly experienced candidates will be considered at the top end of the salary range.
  • 76 hours per fortnight
  • Fully maintained vehicle for work and commuting purposes
  • Excellent superannuation benefits, offering up to 18% with a 6% employee contribution
  • Additional benefits, including salary sacrifice, free pool and gym access and 2 extra days of annual leave

  

Given the regional and operational nature of the role, the successful applicant will need to be flexible in relation to working hours, work locations and after-hours commitments. Short-stay overnight accommodation may be provided from time to time. Upon availability, the Shire may also consider longer term accommodation at a subsidised rental rate for the term of employment.
