Community Champion Sundowner - Volunteer Week

The Shire of Boddington hosted National Volunteer Week in Boddington: Community Champions Sundowner on Sunday, 21 May 2023 to formally recognise the service and impact of volunteers representing community groups, sporting clubs and emergency services based within the Shire. Our local volunteers shape Boddington as a stronger, healthier and happier community to live, work and visit. Their time, energy and expertise delivers over $570,000 worth of service to the community each year which would otherwise not be possible.

With support from Volunteering WA and Lotterywest the Shire of Boddington, with support of Boddington Progress Group and Boddington Sports and Community Club, treated local volunteers  to a free sundowner event to formally acknowledge and celebrate their generous contributions to community life. Julie Burton (Chief Executive Officer) led with a presentation acknowledging the impact of volunteers, before certificates were presented to volunteer involving organisations. A heartwarming buffet dinner was then served by the Food Boss Diner, followed by an empowering presentation by guest speaker Greg Hire.

Boddington is home to a variety of community groups and volunteering is a wonderful way to connect with likeminded people and make a positive difference within our community. To continue recognising the impact of volunteers, the Shire of Boddington is now launching its Community Champions Campaign. This is an opportunity for residents to nominate local volunteers and spotlight their contributions to the broader community.

The Shire’s website now contains a Volunteering page which further information, including an online nomination form (physical copies are available on request).
