Aged Care Accommodation Update

Planning for the Aged Care Accommodation in Boddington has taken another step forward, with Council recently confirming the preferred location of the facility to be the Hospital/Health Precinct. Three options in the Boddington townsite were assessed for suitability, with the land around the Hospital, Medical Centre and Independent Living Units determined to be the most appropriate.

The assessment of the sites included an analysis of 34 criteria, such as proximity to facilities, integration with community, and access to services. The Aged Care Accommodation Committee had previously noted the preferred option as the hospital precinct, with this independent assessment seeking to confirm that a 40+ bed facility would fit on the available land
area. The assessment confirmed that this was possible, and that there were multiple options for the layout of the facility on the site.

Given the Shire does not own all of the land on the preferred site, engagement will shortly commence with the Western Australian Country Health Service (WACHS) to gain formal support and endorsement for the project. Subject to in-principle support for the development of the facility from WACHS, an expression of interest process will follow, allowing service providers to submit a formal proposal to develop and operate the facility.
