The Shire of Boddington is pleased to announce notable progress in its Aged Care Accommodation & Services Strategy. After a comprehensive review of three potential sites for a new Residential Aged Care facility, the Shire, in collaboration with specialists, has identified a preferred location adjacent to the Hospital precinct and the Independent Living Units. Recent discussions with the Western Australian Country Health Service have yielded positive outcomes, indicating the potential for access to additional land for the facility.
The selection of this site is the latest in a series of recent steps the Shire has taken to address the needs of its aging population. The initial step involved completing an updated needs analysis and feasibility study for an Aged Care facility in Boddington and its surrounding areas. The analysis indicates a demand for a Residential Aged Care facility with approximately 45 beds.
Now that a preferred site has been chosen, the Shire is gearing up to issue a formal Request for Proposal in 2024. To facilitate this process, a Project Steering Committee has been established to provide support through a formal governance structure focused on project delivery.
The Request for Proposal will aim to identify a preferred provider to construct and operate the Aged Care Accommodation facility, ensuring 24-hour, 7-day care for vulnerable aged residents from the Shire of Boddington and neighbouring areas.
The Aged Care industry is currently facing significant challenges, with ongoing financial pressures that are yet to be resolved. There is also high demand across the State for additional aged care places (beds). These two factors, as well as the added difficulty in attracting an operator to a regional area, require incentives to be considered, which will assist in attracting an operator to Boddington. Council will consider an initial incentive package at the Ordinary Council Meeting in January 2024.
